SCOPE:

The Portfolio Manager will assist and support the Commercial Lending Team with the day-to-day management of existing large customer portfolios in high growth markets, having a moderate degree of difficulty. Further, this position will be responsible for generating new business and referrals. Portfolio Manager reports to the Chief Lending Officer and will work closely with all the Commercial Lenders to meet lending goals and objectives. The Portfolio Manager will communicate with borrowers, third party lenders, attorneys, and other external parties, as appropriate.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Loan Portfolio Management: 50%

  • Support Commercial Loan Officers in their negotiation of more complex contracts with customers.
  • Meet with loan applicants, perform site inspections, collect and analyze financial and related data in order to determine the general credit worthiness of applicants, and verify the data.
  • Determine credit risk and make timely and accurate decisions on loans within delegated authority.
  • Present recommendations within the credit presentation to the appropriate parties when necessary.
  • Monitor assigned loans on a regular and continuous basis; specifically monitor the repayment activities and take necessary action to collect past due accounts.
  • Assist in developing workout strategies for collection loans.
  • Review credit appraisals and loan agreements for Commercial Lenders as needed to ensure they are complete and accurate under Bank policy.
  • Maintain customer confidence and protect the bank operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Provide day to day commercial loan support across the bank.   

Sales: 40%

  • Generate new business opportunities, get referrals, monitor sales pipeline, and meet established production targets.
  • Participate actively in business development and marketing programs, contacting both current and prospective customers.
  • Advises customers about the risks, consequences, and benefits of different lending solutions, and rejects loans when necessary, by explaining the deficiencies to applicants.
  • Completes loan contracts by explaining provisions to applicants, obtaining signatures, and collecting fees.
  • Assist with cross selling bank’s services.
  • Provide leadership and actively participate in customer, community, and public relation activities to increase the bank’s visibility and to enhance new business opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain positive networking relationships with customers and prospects, along with promoting the bank's favorable image.
  • Reflects a positive image for the Bank by always exuding professional demeanor.

Other: 10%

  • Keeps abreast of current industry trends, regulatory issues, and overall economic environment. Integrate knowledge into strategic and operational business planning. Successfully complete all assigned training.
  • Complies with bank, state, and federal rules and regulations, evidenced through successful completion of training, and demonstrated ability. Topics include but are not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti Money Laundering, Ethics, Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), etc.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Management including but not limited to assisting in Branch operations as assigned.

  • Must be able to analyze numbers and use those skills as they pertain to the loan underwriting process.  Must be organized, efficient, and able to work independently and be detail oriented to generate accurate reports. Able to work with and interpret multiple sources of data to provide senior management with accurate information.

  • Regard for all key details to assure accuracy in every transaction performed; detect errors; follow through on corrections and details.

Oral/Written Communication:

  • Must be able to communicate thoughts professionally and effectively, both orally and written.  Must be able to communicate throughout the organization and to all levels of staff as well as external contacts.

Time Management:

  • Ability to effectively manage one’s time to complete work according to established deadlines.  The ability to prioritize tasks to make the best use of time for high priority tasks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) in finance, accounting, or business-related field required; or three to five years’ experience of banking or credit experience or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer and data processing literacy required, including adept experience with Microsoft Office programs and Fiserv software. Experience with Lending Cloud is helpful, but not required. Working knowledge of bank regulation and compliance is required. Mathematical, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills required.  Must be highly motivated with good communication skills, able to work independently, and capable of executing tactical plans in line with strategic objectives.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement regulations and laws, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, policy, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical operations including but not limited to variance analysis, factor analysis, correlation techniques, sampling theory and sensitivity analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and/or problems and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver’s license required for travel to Bank offices, training sessions, customer meetings, Bank, and community meetings, etc.  Ability to speak a foreign language helpful but not required.
